Piara Waters Community Pavilion 2014
Built with a focus on crime prevention and environmental sustainability, the Piara Waters Pavilion boasts a sturdy structure and stylish finishes. To minimise environmental impact, the facility embraced a tailored passive strategy, featuring expansive polycarbonate eaves and a double-skinned translucent soffit, which allows abundant natural light to illuminate internal spaces while reducing heat buildup. Spatial analysis played a crucial role in the design process, particularly in achieving passive activation in external areas. DP(A) addressed this challenge by incorporating translucency along the oval-facing facade and extending the pavilion, optimising sightlines and orienting the facility towards the playing grounds for maximum visibility and engagement.
