Caversham Community Centre 2017

The design of the Caversham Community Centre is guided by key principles of Water Sensitive Urban Design, Environmental Sensitivity, and Crime Prevention. The spatial layout prioritises ample views from interior spaces to the oval, facilitated by its distinctive curved, boomerang-like form. This form not only mitigates harsh sun exposure and aids in passive cooling. Crime prevention principles are incorporated through the reduction of blind corners and the enhancement of passive building surveillance throughout the site. Additionally, water-sensitive measures are implemented, including the use of rain gardens in the car park area to recharge the water table and minimise environmental impact from water consumption.
