Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre Complete

The Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre is a major aquatic refurbishment in New South Wales, jointly undertaken with NBRS Architects. Originally built in 1959, the centre has significant heritage fabric, and is a well-known backdrop in many television scenes due to its colourful tiling style.

Armadale Aquatic Schematic Design

Armadale Aquatic is currently in design development.  This $25 million project will have an exciting array of sustainable features such as:

  • Geothermal Pool Heating
  • Highly insulated roof and high-tech glazing systems.
  • Solar hot water
  • Electrical Photovoltaics
  • High efficiency mechanical systems
  • All-weather covered outdoor pool, providing better year-round amenity.

Bold Park Aquatic Centre Complete

We are very proud to have completed the Bold Park Aquatic Centre in Floreat, WA.

Having spent the last 30 years at the forefront of sustainable Aquatic Centre technologies, Donovan Payne wanted to take this building one step further by using nature’s most sustainable resource: timber.  While other materials rely heavily on mining and other destructive processes, timber structures can be built from re-planted forests to ensure that we are not leaving tomorrow’s generation with less than we have today.  Using timber certified by the forestry stewardship council of Australia, the building settles into its beautiful bush landscape, and makes a clear statement to the community about environmental design.

The other joy of using timber is the warmth that it brings to public spaces; creating welcoming and unique spaces for the community to enjoy.  We have combined this with large operable walls around the leisure pool, as well as around the reception areas, so that the building can be fully opened up to […]

Mandurah Aquatic Complete

Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre is now complete!  This 20 million dollar refurbishment involved many complex elements, including marrying together several older buildings into one new coherent scheme.  The new centre looks fantastic, and we believe the images speak for themselves.

Donovan Payne and Perkins Builders will be building new dry-centre facilities over the next two years.

Bold Park Aquatic Centre Ready for Tender

Bold Park Aquatic is now nearing tender time, and we should hopefully see some construction begin within 3 months. It’s a very exciting time at Donovan Payne as we are gearing up to take on more new sustainable technologies.

Bold Park Aquatic Centre will be a major improvement over the current centre, with an all-new 10 lane 50 metre pool; a warmer all-weather leisure pool; creche and multi-purpose room; and local cafe.

The pools will be heated by an all-new solar hot water array, significantly reducing operating costs over the next 30 years. Donovan Payne has put the focus on sustainable materials, and will be using extensive amounts of Radiata Pine Glulam and Hoop Pine plywood in the design. These fast-growth species are certified by the Forestry Sustainability Council, and are regularly replanted to ensure that we are protecting our forests.

Bold Park Aquatic Walkthrough Complete

Donovan Payne has recently completed the Schematic Design phase for Bold Park Aquatic in Western Australia.

 

The design consists of a new 10-lane 50 metre pool with full disabled access; a new all-weather leisure pool and community leisure areas; and a new administration building with a large cafe space serving both swimmers and park trail walkers.  At the heart of the building will be a new iconic entrance that will sit naturally in the bush landscape and give a unique identity to the facilities.  The aim is to create a sense of pride in the local users to maximise usage and increase the centre’s viability.

Mandurah Out to Tender

 

It has been just under a year of consultation, briefing, designing and drafting at the Mandurah Aquatic Recreation Centre; and now finally we’re out to tender!

 

The refurbished aquatic centre involves the addition of a new leisure pool, tots pool, waterplay zone, casual spa, dedicated spa, 50 metre pool, change rooms, and new building facades!  It is one of the largest projects Donovan Payne has executed in 2013 and we are very excited to get the builders on site.  Subject to a successful tender, building will commence in early 2014.

 

 

Ryde Olympic Aquatic Centre

 

Ryde Aquatic Centre is better known to most people as the Sydney 2000 Olympic water polo venue.  This exceptionally large aquatic venue had a very demanding set of requirements as it needed to fulfill two quite separate functions:  Firstly, it had to present Australia on the world stage as a high-technology world-standard olympic venue; but secondly it had to function as a fully working community aquatic and sporting facility after the Olympics, while maintaining economic feasability.

 

Extensive briefing of the client and stakeholders was the key to Donovan Payne Architects’ success.  This involved defining the exact requirements of not only known users, but projected future conditions as well.  Ryde Aquatic Centre now consists of 25 and 50 metre pools, wave pool, water play areas, spa and sauna facilities, disability program pool, turbo channel, sporting courts and facilities, gymnasium, offices, and cafe spaces.  To this day, Ryde stands as one of the largest and most successful aquatic centres in Australia.

 

Murray Leisure Centre

 

Murray Leisure Centre was designed with a focus on Environmentally Sustainable Principles.  The local council needed a large set of facilities that could run very efficiently, without sacrificing on function.  Donovan Payne Architects believe that to generate truly sustainable design, it must be incorporated from the outset of the project.  Passive design measures were fully employed, including ample natural daylighting, low internal solar radiation, large natural ventilation, calculated use of louvres and thermal loads, and low-conduction transparent materials instead of glass.

 

The result has been a very large aquatic complex that needs very little artificial lighting and ventilation, and provides and excellent comfort level both visually and environmentally for the community.  The shire of Murray is reaping the rewards of sustainable design through lower running costs, and higher environmental satisfaction of both the pool users and the staff who need to use the space every day.

 

Leonora Aquatic Centre

 

Leonora Aquatic Centre is probably most famous for is Donovan Payne custom-design Noddy car in the leisure pool.  This waterplay element has proved so popular that several copies have popped up in other locations around Australia!

Leonora, situated in the Western Australian gold fields, is an icon of remote, rural communities.  Donovan Payne Architects have done several projects in Leonora, building a strong rapport with the shire, and its stakeholders.  The remoteness of the location make it a challenging job to execute, however we have developed strong systems for remote Architects work.  Donovan Payne developed a comprehensive plan for meetings, phone, and email contact with the client and stakeholders to ensure that the briefing process was thorough and accurate.
