Donovan Payne received a commendation for Bold Park Aquatic in the WA Architecture Awards 2016.  This is a major achievement, pitted against tough competition, and we are very proud of the result.  We are looking forward to building on this with future projects.

From the Jury Citation:

“Surrounded on all sides by bush land, Bold Park Aquatic is a kind of oasis. It features the comforts of high technology pools supporting leisure and exercise while immersed in native bush land replete with birds and other wildlife. Passive and active climate design principles have been thoughtfully and effectively integrated in an architectural composition that celebrates timber as structure, as cladding and as furniture. Combined with natural stone paving and walling, the exposed timber in public spaces is refreshing, indeed inviting.  The architects have surpassed the community’s expectations delivering a complex that retains the fondly held bush land setting, but through resourceful design expands the brief to provide more than just the required facilities and accommodation. Assisted by judicious materials selection, the height and scale of the structure have been skilfully managed to maintain a sense that these pavilions and pools are tucked into their landscape. The architects show a profound understanding of the operation and maintenance of such public facilities throughout the design, extending to even ‘simple’ details. There is clear evidence of productive collaboration with a raft of technical experts, all focused on delivering an excellent facility. The jury commends the architects on their design.”
