We have just finished rendering out the concept design for an Armadale Office project.  This was a fantastic chance to flex our design muscles and focus on blending a very large building into the edge of the business area.  After testing out dozens of schemes, we’ve uploaded our two favourite concepts below.

The site is an elevated location just east of the Armadale City Centre; and adjacent the South West Highway.

It has views to the north; north-west; and north-east.

The contours of the land allowed a planning response that provides car-parking access at level grade from Church Avenue on the north-side. This level also provides the main building entry, which is a two-level foyer providing vertical access to the 5 levels of offices above.

Because of the fall across the site, the building presents from the east as 5-level, as seen from the South West Highway; and up close, from Church Avenue.

The view from the north towards the main entry and foyer area demonstrates the 6 level design.

On the eastern side, the walls follow the curve of Church Avenue, with minimum setbacks as required.

Our approach has been to design an economical structure, using standard concrete column/floor slab construction. The walls are stone-tile faced, with a continuous glazing system to the Church Avenue elevation.

The building aesthetic is developed by the use of perforated screens, which provide direct sun-light protection, as well as reducing the heat load on the building fabric. The result is a building that is both energy-use responsible; and visually playful.
